Etihad Airways resuming flights to Nairobi

Etihad resumes flights to Nairobi

Etihad Airways is set to resume direct flights to Nairobi (NBO) on 1 May 2024. The route will operated daily with an A320.

Etihad’s new routes in 2023 and 2024

Etihad CEO Antonoaldo Neves appears to be cracking on with his promise to triple the airline’s size by 2030

In addition to Nairobi, Etihad has now announced plans to launch 11 new destinations, including Boston, Malaga, Mykonos, Lisbon, Kolkata, St Petersburg, Dusseldorf, Copenhagen, Osaka, Kozhikode and Thiruvananthapuram.

With the launch of these new routes, the opening of the new Terminal A at Abu Dhabi Airport in November can’t happen soon enough.

Boston (BOS)

Etihad has announced the latest addition to the airline’s network. Etihad will fly to Boston (BOS) four times a week from 31 March 2024. The new route will be the airline’s fourth destination in the US after Chicago, New York JFK and Washington.

Passengers travelling to Boston will have access to the Pre-Clearance facility at Abu Dhabi, meaning they clear US immigration and customs before departure, easing the arrival at the other end.

At this stage, there appears to be GuestSeat reward availability in both Business and Economy. GuestSeat Redemptions in Business Class cost 110,005 Guest Miles and AED 2,050.

A return to Kolkata (CCU)

Flights to Kolkata started on 26 March 2023. This is a relaunch of a route that Etihad previously operated before the pandemic.

The airline flies daily on the Abu Dhabi – Kolkata route, providing seven weekly nonstop services to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport (CCU).

Relaunching Düsseldorf (DUS)

Flights to Düsseldorf will also relaunch on 28 September 2023. A Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft will operate the route three times a week on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday.

Düsseldorf will be the airline’s third city in Germany after Frankfurt and Munich. Both destinations are currently served with daily flights.

First time to Copenhagen (CPH)

Flights to Copenhagen will launch on 29 September 2023. This is a brand new route for Etihad. It will operate with a Boeing 787 Dreamliner four times a week on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday.

New route to Osaka

Etihad plans to begin flying to Osaka (KIX) on 1 October. This will be the airline’s second destination in Japan alongside Tokyo.

Flights from Abu Dhabi will operate five times a week with a two-class 787-9, featuring Etihad’s Business Studio seat. These aircraft also offer nine rows of Economy Space seating with extra legroom in Economy.

Osaka is an exciting addition to the Etihad network, particularly for foodies. Known as the ‘Kitchen of Japan’, the city has an impressive culinary scene, mixing Michelin-starred restaurants with eclectic eateries.

Olá Lisbon (LIS)

A direct flight from Abu Dhabi to Lisbon has been on my wish list for a long time. The new route was launched in July 2023 with a Boeing 787 Dreamliner. Etihad plans to serve Lisbon with three weekly flights on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Sundays.

This was initially launched as a seasonal summer route. However, it is being extended year-round from 29 October 2023

St Petersburg (LED)

From 29 October 2023, Etihad will fly to St. Petersburg (LED) three times a week on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. The route, operated with a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, is the airline’s second destination in Russia alongside Moscow.

Kozhikode (CCJ) and Thiruvananthapuram (TRV)

Etihad will launch daily service to Kozhikode (CCJ) and Thiruvananthapuram (TRV) from 1 January 2024.

Summer flights to Málaga (AGP) and Mykonos (JMK)

Etihad has announced the return of seasonal flights to Málaga and Mykonos over the summer of 2023. I would expect these to return in 2024.

Increased frequencies

In addition to new destinations, Etihad is increasing its frequency to several popular destinations, including Chennai, Frankfurt, Rome, Kochi, Madrid, Milan, Munich, Phuket, Cairo, Colombo, Islamabad and Male.

Conclusion

It is great to see Etihad increasing frequencies and adding new routes to the airline’s network. All destinations are available to book now.

I’m curious to see what new route Etihad announces next. I would love to see flights to Salalah and Vietnam return.

Where else would you like to see Etihad fly?
