Bits – secret camping in the UAE, a speakeasy at JFK, vegan cuisine at 30,000 feet

  • by

This is a collection of best bits and bobs on travel from around the internet I have read over the last week.

Staycation goals. Adventure start-up CAMPR will now set you up with a secret ready-to-camp campsite anywhere in the UAE. HT The National

Lounge goals. American Express has included a gorgeous hidden speakeasy in its newest lounge in JFK T4. Fortunately for Abu Dhabi based frequent flyers, this is the same terminal Etihad uses in New York. HT The Design Air

Yum! Qatar Airways has launched a fully vegan a la carte menu in business class. The first airline to introduce a keto menu will be getting all my business. HT Executive Traveller

Meanwhile, Singapore Airlines’ popup A380 Restaurant sold out in 26 minutes. I would love to to see Etihad try something similar in Abu Dhabi, particularly if their A380 fleet does end up being grounded permanently. HT Mainly Miles

If your hometown is moving into a COVDI-19 second wave lockdown this might be for you. Dubai has launched a one year visa for Digital Nomads – you can now live and work remotely from Dubai with the emirate’s new virtual working programme.

A happy sign that a bit of normality is beginning to return to the skies. Emirates is reinstating premium services including bringing back the A380 business class bar and first-class showers. HT One Mile at Time

And finally, last week The Expat Flyer talked to The New York Times about the challenges expats face organising multi-family gatherings across multiple continents during a pandemic.
