Emirates Skywards, the frequent flyer programme of Emirates Airline and flydubai, has four main tiers. This post explains what you must do to get Emirates Skywards Blue Tier status.

Skywards members earn both Skywards Miles and Tier Miles. Skywards Miles can be used to book reward flights or redeemed for hotel stays, experiences, or even shopping.
Meanwhile, Tier Miles are used solely to determine elite status within the Skywards programme. Tier status provides additional travel benefits on the ground and in the air, such as lounge access, priority check-in and boarding, free seat selection and extra baggage allowance.
The four main Skywards Tiers are Blue, Silver, Gold and Platinum. In addition, there is Emirates iO, an exclusive invitation-only category for the airline’s most valuable customers and partners.
The Blue Tier is Skywards’ entry-level tier and is immediately available to anyone who signs up for the programme. Silver, Gold, and Platinum are elite tiers that offer extra benefits and privileges.
What are the benefits of Skywards Blue status?
As a new member, you will automatically receive Skywards Blue status and will be able to start earning Skywards Miles.
As an entry-level tier, Blue offers minimal benefits. However, two main perks to Skywards Blue status make signing up potentially useful even for infrequent flyers.
Staying connected in the air

Blue members receive free unlimited chat and app messaging on board Emirates flights in all classes. This is worth up to USD $5.99, depending on the flight length.
More niche, Blue Tier members also benefit from complimentary Wi-Fi when flying in First Class. This benefit is worth up to USD $19.99, depending on flight length.
If you’re not already a Skywards member, it is possible to sign up for Skywards using the on board Wi-Fi to access the complimentary chat and messaging immediately.
Discounted access to Emirates lounges
Skywards Blue members can pay to use Emirates Business and First Class lounges in Dubai and around the world at a discounted rate.
For example, at Dubai International Airport, the standard price for access to the Business Class lounge is USD $175, while Blue members pay only USD $150.
Access to the First Class lounges at Dubai is USD $300, while Blue members pay only USD $250.
Full details on paid access to Emirates lounges can be found here.
