Emirates rolling out playlist sync on ice

Emirates' IFE screen in Economy class

The UAE school spring break starts this coming weekend. Many expat families will be flying home for the holidays. Emirates has added a family-friendly upgrade, playlist sync, to the airline’s iOS and Android apps to make the journey more enjoyable.

Emirates is rightly very proud of ice its on-demand inflight entertainment platform. There are not many other airlines that come close to the sheer volume of movies, TV shows, music and games available.

Passengers logged on to the app can now browse all of the entertainment available on their flight and create a bespoke personalised playlist. Once on board, that playlist can be synced to their seatback screen.

The Emirates app is free to download on iOS or Android devices.

Playlist sync is great for families

This new function is brilliant for parents travelling with young children. Expat Toddler is now old enough to sit and watch a cartoon or children’s show on his own. That obviously makes for a much more relaxed journey for Mr & Mrs Expat Flyer.

However, there’s always a bit of frantic scramble at the end of each show or movie to search the children’s section to find something age and content appropriate. The ability to create a pre-vetted playlist of shows and movies for Expat Toddler would make for a much more relaxed flight.

The entertainment playlist sync is currently only available on 100 777 aircraft. This is close to half of the total Emirates fleet. The capability will be rolled out to the rest of the fleet including A380 aircraft over the next few months. Check your reservation in the app to see if playlist sync is available on your flight.

Don’t forget Home Check-in

Dubai Airport will be busy over the spring holiday period. If you are travelling with the family, remember Emirates also offers a Home Check-in service for passengers in Dubai. Home Check-in costs AED 250 for up to seven pieces of luggage. Extra luggage is charged at AED 25 per piece. You can also be able to pay for excess baggage if your bags are over the weight limit.

Happy travels!
