Emirates launches new route from Dubai to Porto

This is exciting. Emirates launched a new route connecting Dubai to Porto this morning. It is Emirates’ second destination in Portugal after Lisbon.

The flight will operate four times a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Emirates will fly the route with a Boeing 777-300 ER in a three class configuration offering First, Business and Economy cabins.

The planned schedule is perfect for a long weekend break from Dubai. It would be possible to take Thursday off and make it back to your desk for the start of the working week on Sunday.

Alternatively, book an open jaw and fly into Lisbon and out of Porto or vice versa. The train ride between the two cities is around three hours. There are close to twenty connections between the two cities every day.

Porto is a real foodie paradise. Situated on the Atlantic coast and by the Douro River, the city is famous for its Port wine. There are tasting houses and cellars dotted all around its historical city centre, a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is possible to eat very well in Porto without spending a great deal. The city has some of the best value fine dining in the world.

From Dubai to Porto with Skywards miles

The new flight schedule is already loaded on Emirates.com with both cash fares and Skywards redemptions available to book. There is good availability throughout the summer in all three classes for Skywards reward bookings.

The cost of a Skywards return redemption mirrors that for Lisbon:

  • Economy: 45,000 (Saver) 77,500 (Flex Plus)
  • Business: 90,000 (Saver) 125,000 (Flex Plus)
  • First: 135,000 (Flex) 170,000 (Flex Plus)

The list of brand new destinations accessible from the UAE launching in 2019 is slowly growing. It now includes Tashkent, Naples, and Porto as well as additional connections to Belgrade, Kozhikode, and Budapest.

There is a good chance we will see Mexico City and Damascus added to the list later in the year. I started the year a little pessimistic about how many new routes would launch in 2019. I am happy to see that I’m gradually being proved wrong.
