Earn 3,000 Skywards Miles with Heathrow Rewards sign-up bonus

  • by

A quick reminder that if you’re flying through London Heathrow this summer there is an easy opportunity to pick up 3,000 bonus Skywards miles. Heathrow Rewards is offering the sign-up bonus to new members who spend at least £150 GBP at Heathrow airport on a single day before 31 December 2019.

To be eligible for the bonus you must open a new account using this registration link. Check that ‘BA2019′ appears in the contact form section. The bonus offer is being promoted by British Airways. Don’t worry though. The bonus will be paid in Heathrow Rewards points which can be transferred to any of Heathrow Rewards’ airline transfer partners which include Emirates Skywards.

What is Heathrow Rewards?

Heathrow Rewards is the loyalty programme for Heathrow Airport. You can earn points for almost all purchases at Heathrow from parking and shopping to dining and even Heathrow Express tickets. Points are accumulated at a rate of 1 point per £1 GBP of spend. Money exchange at Travelex earns a lower rate of 1 point per £10 GBP.

Rewards points can be redeemed for airport shopping vouchers or used for instant discounts at certain stores at the airport. The redemption rate is 500 points for a £5 GBP voucher or discount.

Here is the interesting part. Points can also be transferred to a number of airline frequent flyer programmes. Emirates Skywards is one of the Heathrow Rewards longstanding partners.

How to get the sign-up bonus?

There are three steps to earn the sign-up bonus:

  1. Sign up for a new Heathrow Rewards account using this link. Make sure ‘BA2019’ appears in the Promotion code field.
  2. Spend £150 at London Heathrow in a single day before 31st January 2019. The spend does not need to be in a single transaction. Certain items including tobacco and prescription medicines are not eligible to earn points. Check the full list in the Terms & Conditions under ‘Awarding of Points’.
  3. Make sure to show the cashier your Heathrow Rewards card when you pay. This does not need to be the physical card which will be sent by post. A virtual card on your phone or Apple Wallet is fine.

The bonus points normally appear in your account within 24 hours but may take a few days longer with certain retailers.

In addition to the sign-up bonus of 3,000 points, you will receive a standard new account opening bonus of 100 points. You will also receive Heathrow Rewards points for the spend necessary to trigger the bonus. This means you will net a minimum of 3,250 Rewards points.

If you have an Emirates My Family account considering signing up all the members aged over 18 and earn multiple bonuses.

Transferring Heathrow Rewards points to Skywards

Heathrow Rewards points can be transferred to Emirates Skywards in blocks of 250. The transfer ratio is 1:1 between Heathrow Rewards and Skywards so 250 Heathrow Reward points = 250 Skywards miles.

One note of caution. Transfers are not instantaneous. Heathrow Rewards sends the transfer requests to Skywards every week on a Monday.

Unless you need the Skywards miles urgently it would be a good idea to sit on them for the time being. Over the last year, Heathrow Rewards has run a number of promotions offering bonuses of 25-100% on transfers to certain airline frequent flyer programmes. A Skywards promotion would potentially net between 3,750-6,000 Skywards miles.

This is a really easy opportunity to pick up some bonus Skywards miles. Remember the duty free allowance for the United Arab Emirates is 4 litres of alcohol and up to 3,000 AED on gifts per flyer. Hitting the £150 GBP spend to trigger the bonus should not be too difficult.
